You've enabled Excel, now what?

Share your Excel data and charts on data.world and access thousands of datasets straight from Excel.

Add data.world to Excel

Using Excel's Add-ins store, you can easily add the data.world connector to Excel:

System Requirements:
  • Excel 2016+ for Windows (Version 1701/Build 7870.2024 or later)
  • Excel 2016+ for Mac (15.36 or later)
  • Excel Online (Since January 2017)
  1. In Excel, choose Add-ins, then Store from the Insert menu.
  2. Search for and select data.world from the add-ins menu, then click Add.

Authorize data.world and upload a file.

After installing the add-in, you can connect your data.world account and start syncing your data:

  1. Choose Sync Data from the data.world section in the ribbon menu, then click Sign In and enter your login details.
  2. Choose what to do with your Excel sheet:
    • Upload a new file.
    • Re-upload a recent file using saved configurations.
  3. Configure any additional details (like which area to bind in your worksheet, file name, target location, etc.) and click OK to upload.
  4. View your synced data in data.world!

Import a file or query.

In addition to syncing files, you can also import files or queries directly to your Excel sheet:

  1. Choose Import Data from the data.world section in the ribbon menu:
  2. Choose how to proceed with your import:
    • Import a new file/query.
    • Re-import a recent file/query using saved configurations.
  3. Configure any additional details (dataset/project to use as a source, upload a table or specific query, table/query name, etc.) and click OK to upload.

What next?

Here's what else you can do with Excel and data.world:

  • Create a chart in Excel, then use the Publish Insights option from the ribbon bar to save the chart as an Insight in data.world.
